Unplug electrical items which may be affected by a power surge once power is restored or invest in surge protectors
keep track of the powercut on your mobile by entering your postcode here
Check in on friends, family and neighbours where possible
Keep a written record of any information you might need during a power cut in the absence of an internet connection ie. national grid number or store this on your mobile
Any personal alarms, medical or mobility equipment that require electricity, make sure you contact the manufacturer to understand what to do during a power cut
Make sure you have a fully charged power bank to keep your mobile charged
Have a torch ready and spare batteries should you need them
A wind up radio can be helpful during prolonged outages to keep up to date
Keep some food supplies (including any pets), water and any medications if necessary, stocked up just in case
If eligible, register onto the Priority Services Register
Prepare an emergency kit
Your gas, hot water for your shower and water supply can all be affected by a power outage
Your mobile phone could be affected if the nearby phone mast is impacted by the electricity cut
Power cuts are more likely during hot weather
The government recommend people to have enough food and water for 3 days in the event of an emergency
